Resources Regarding Sexual Harassment and Sexual & Relationship Violence

Prevention of sexual and relationship violence, at any level, is always the goal. Unfortunately, there are times when one experiences sexual and/or relationship violence due to the victimizing choices of those who commit such offensives. In these cases, help is available. SRVC created this guide as a general overview of the campus resources available that address sexual/relationship violence.

Sexual & Relationship Violence Center (SRVC)

is a department within Student Life of Student Affairs. The SRVC provides confidential victim advocacy services for those who have encountered sexual and/or relationship violence. A trained advocate will help identify and access the many resources available. All advocacy services are provided in a supportive, confidential manner. Also, the SRVC provides various education programs regarding sexual and relationship violence and more can be learned by emailing respect@uark.edu.

Law Enforcement

A variety of law enforcement options are available for reporting criminal offenses depending on where the incident occurred. If one wishes to make a police report and the incident occurred on campus, contact the University of Arkansas Police Department (UAPD). If the incident occurred off campus, contact the local police department where the offense occurred.

Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex discrimination, including sexual violence, in educational settings. The Title IX Coordinator oversees the University’s compliance. Title IX requires that a university must review and respond to on campus incidents (e.g., sexual assault/misconduct, sexual harassment, domestic/dating, violence, stalking, discrimination based on pregnancy, etc.) once placed on notice. Office of Student Standards and Conduct

(OSSC) mission is to support the University of Arkansas’ mission by promoting a safe and orderly community through the education of students, the enforcement of behavioral standard, peer mentoring, and leadership development. Any case that is investigated or adjudicated as an alleged student conduct violation will follow specific procedures and rights as outlined in the Code of Student Life. UA Cares

UA Cares offers a supportive and encouraging partnership with students by linking them with appropriate resources. Reports of offenses can also be made through the U of A Cares website and then routed to the appropriate response department. To learn more, visit the UA Cares website.

Counseling

A variety of confidential counseling options are available for students at the University of Arkansas. Through a partnership with the School of Social Work, counseling is available at the SRVC for victims/survivors of sexual and relationship violence at no cost.

At the Pat Walker Health Center, CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services) is available. CAPS provides 24-hour emergency counseling services and can be accessed by calling (479) 575-5276.

Survivor's Group

Survivors’ Group is a support group that meets weekly during the fall and spring semesters. Participants of various levels of the healing process collectively lend support to each other within this confidential group. This is not a clinical mental health therapy group. The group is facilitated by advocates from SRVC and uses peer-based support. Information about the Survivors’ Group is available by contacting SRVC at survivor@uark.edu or calling (479) 575-4000.

Legal Advocacy

Legal Advocacy is available through a partnership with Legal Aid of Arkansas and the SRVC. Student victims/survivors may have free consultation with an attorney and a victim advocate at the same time to learn of their rights, resources, and more. Should a student choose to retain the attorney, they may apply with Legal Aid of Arkansas. Most students qualify for free legal services. RESPECT

RESPECT (Rape Education Services by Peers Encouraging Conscious Thought), a program of SRVC consists of peer educators that address sexual and relationship violence through interactive presentations, outreach, and awareness events.
